ESTABLISHED 1863, RE-ESTABLISHED 2013

The Cow and Calf Hotel was formerly well known in Wellington as the Club House Hotel. This iconic building on the main street of Wellington has no doubt seen many triumphs and tribulations throughout its 150 years…. the stories these walls must be able to tell.

The new renovations have cleverly managed to maintain some of the historical features of the original pub. As you walk through the building there is still a historical undertone that lingers. The images on the walls of the great floods, the horses tied to the posts and cattle grazing in the empty paddocks surrounding it help put in perspective the many years the pub has seen and the growth of the community surrounding it’s existence.

Of particular historical significance was the 1955 floods which inundated the town. The images capture the extent of the water rise by the two Wellington locals getting around by boat which was the best option at the time.
